Digitizing is the process of taking an image or text and programming the individual XY coordinates of each stitch that will be needed to recreate that design in embroidery on a high speed commercial embroidery machine.  While technology has made this process faster and less expensive (it used to take a week and cost $23 per thousand stitch – now it is 2-3 days and costs $12 per thousand stitch!) a skilled digitizer is needed to render a design faithfully from artwork and suggest textures and shape by choosing stitch types and direction artfully. An embroidered design takes on new dimension from the artwork because of the depth and shine of well-placed stitching.  The digitizer programs every needle move, from thread
colour changes, to trimming, and every single lock stitch. Digitizing also tries to take into account the type of fabric the finished product will be on, so the embroidery will work with the natural grain of the fabric. At Justin Stitches, we benefit from years and years of experience to excel at this artform.
